EMBER Trauma Informed Intro Weekend

INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING TRAUMA INFORMED YOGA

This training offers teachers an opportunity to explore the concepts and methods that underlie trauma informed yoga while experiencing parts of the EMBER™ yoga curriculum.

It is intended for yoga teachers, meditation instructors, and practitioners with relevant professional experience who are interested in taking the first learning step toward bringing embodied, mindfulness-based tools of proven effectiveness to address the effects of trauma.

EMBER (Embodied, Mindfulness-based Emotional Resilience) is an evidence based twelve-week resilience program geared toward folx who are rebuilding their lives after trauma. In this workshop, EMBER founder Michele Vinbury will draw on her long experience of working with and teaching traumatized populations to discuss the psychology of trauma, the workings of our nervous system and the principles of trauma-informed yoga. Additionally, she will offer a brief introduction to the curriculum, which has been implemented in prisons, hospitals, and organizations responding to substance abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking and eating disorders.

Throughout the weekend you will:

  • Receive instruction in how to teach specific asana, pranayama and meditation practices in ways that aid the healing journey for those of us who have experienced trauma.

  • Practice a few poly-vagal exercises intended to strengthen and regulate your nervous system (and those of your students!)

  • Learn relevant aspects of brain anatomy and function to shed light on how yoga can facilitate the integration of traumatic experiences for more healthful everyday functioning in the world.

  • Explore the dynamics of creating “safer space” for practice while teaching in yoga studios and also in institutional settings.

  • Experience one EMBER trauma sensitive class and receive the full teaching script for that class.

  • Leave with a 100+ page manual to support your learning and integration of the materials.
