Best Beaches

New England - I grew up in Rhode Island, so I’m partial to South County beaches, but there are so many great beaches in New England to choose from.

Rhode Island: Narragansett - this is a Bay beach and basically the beach to be seen at. Typically gentle waves, gentle gradient. It gets crowded though and it’s expensive to park and to get on the beach.
Matunuck: laid back vibes, some surfing at Deep Hole, great bloody mary’s and live music at The Ocean Mist. (The pic with the car is probs circa 1992 before they built the big pavilion there.)

Sakonnet: quiet, picturesque with gorgeous sunsets.

Block Island: a short ferry ride with beautiful beaches, bike rides and cliffs.

Puerto Rico: My sisters and I visited Puerto Rico and loved Rincon and Culebra. In Rincon we chilled at Sandy Beach East and Sandy Beach West and we were perfectly happy.

Costa Rica: I spent three weeks in Costa Rica in 2016. Though many of those I was travelling with loved the Santa Teresa beaches, I was partial to this hidden gem accessible from this amazing lodge in Uvita.

Bay Area: There are so many beautiful spots here, I’ve heard that one gem is Steep Ravine Hot Springs. Best to go with a local to this one as it’s only open certain times of the day due to its tidal nature. I also love the view at Pt. Reyes.

PNW: My mother and stepfather retired to Anacortes around 2008, since then we’ve had the pleasure of exploring the San Juans. The area is STUNNING. Though often quite touristy, Deception Pass Park is worth being close to other human mammals.

Bahamas: I have stayed at the Sivananda Ashram twice and the mega-resort (Atlantis) once. They are on Paradise Beach and it is beautiful. I prefer the stretch in front of the Sivananda Ashram, it’s much more laid back, but if you want beach chairs and umbrellas brought out for you, Atlantis will be more your style.
