Creating Sacred Space
This is an offering of structure to set sacred space. It is not set in stone and is meant for you to explore and experiment with. As always, use what resonates and release the rest. The setting of the sacred space can take 10 minutes to all day, as you start doing it, you’ll get into a rhythm and find the routine and ritual(s) that work best for you to feel present and connected.
Beginning
Attend to the actual physical space. Make sure that the physical area you are in is neat and clean. It is hard to settle and relax in the midst of cutter and mess.
Align your inner space. Take a few minutes to drop into your body, to slow down. Consciously shift into a more present centered frame of body and mind. It can feel refreshing to wash your hands and/or face or simply take 3-5 fully present breaths to help shift into a more present-centered state.
Open and clear the energetic field. Some say that this removes negative energy, I say this clears space for energy to flow. It also serves as a cue that there is a transition happening – letting your mind know that something different is going to happen. You could:
burn sacred herbs or incense, or
light a candle; or
spritz lavender water or an aura spray around the room.
Middle
The next 3 components can be done solo or combined and offered in any order that feels intuitively correct to you.
Make an offering.
You can offer to anything that feels right, your ancestors, protectors, the elements, directions, earth, God/Goddess.
It can be herbs, flowers, playing a singing bowl, food, water, songs, light a candle…your imagination is the limit.
Illuminate and shield.
Visualize a ball of white light materializing in the center of the space, then growing outward creating a sphere of light that both amplifies the energy in the room and also serves as a shield.
Cast a circle – visualize protective energy/light coming up from the earth through you and then out through your arm (usually dominant arm). Direct the energy/light in a circle around you. From this circle feel or imagine a dome taking shape above and below you.
·Invocation.
Call in the energies of the elements; and/or
Call in the directions; and/or
Call in helping, compassionate guides and teachers.
You could also chant.
Middle+ Do Your Thing
This is where you do whatevs it is that you set out to do in the sacred space - meditate, chant, teach, write, hold ceremony.
End
If you have called in the directions or cast a circle, do this in reverse and end with gratitude.
