Spain Trip 2022

Atlantic Coast of Spain

Pilar and Michele in Granada

I have been looking forward to this trip to Spain for months.  The chance to visit it with a friend, a friend who is from there, had me giddy with anticipation.  And I'll tell you - Southern Spain did not disappoint.

Due to teaching and family obligations, I was only able to commit to a week away in July.  I wasn't worried though, Pilar and I crafted a plan that included beach time, some sightseeing and plenty of opportunities for us to scope out potential retreat locations.

Day 1 - arrive Sevilla rendezvous with Pilar's friend Teresa and travel to Atlanterra to tour our first location.  Check out Zahara and our second possible location.  Stroll through a street market to pick up a bathing suit and summer dress since our luggage had been lost.  Check-in at our air-b-n-b after lunch at a cute little restaurant.  We hit the beach - I immediately jumped in - and then we walked down to have a beer and dance a bit.  Dinner was relaxed and delicious.

Walking down the beach from our casita.

Day 2 - We went to Palmar to check out two other locations we'd found online and at at my favorite restaurant. Try to find our missing luggage from the beach.  I complain about technology and always being plugged in, but it was really nice to be able to text the delivery guy - Antonio - while lying on a beach towel!

Day 3 - Teresa goes back to work and we go to Chiclana to get a rental car and then back to Atlanterra to play with Juni the drone and spend the afternoon on the beach.  We drove to a small Pueblo blanco to walk the streets and check out a recommended tea spot.  OMG the terrace was heaven.

Beautiful village with white buildings and moorish influences. GORGEOUS

On our way back to Zahara (where we had rented an air-b-n-b) we found a gorgeous beach - I saw kite surfers and immediately asked Pilar if we could pull over.  After watching the kite surfers and horseback riders we returned to the car (and may or may not have peed in the bushes there!!)

Blissfully happy at the beach!

Day 4 - Up and after our cafe con leche and toast with olive oil we headed to Granada via the scenic route.  Lunch in a seaside - omg the bocaron was salty and delicious. And then arrived at Pilar's parents house - where I quickly fell in love with the property and the people.

I don’t typically eat seafood or meat, but I made an exception this week. Totally worth it.

Day 5 - Alhambra and shopping.  Drinks with her sister that night.

Day 6 - Off to the airport, happy and sun tanned.

I’ve been home for 4 days and I absolutely cannot wait to go back!
